Decklist spotlight: SuperJJ‘s winning decks from Batstone #1 on directorygames

The first edition of Batstone introduced a 13-card banlist. How did that effect players’ deckbuilding?

Going undefeated through Thijs “ThijsNL” Molendijk, Drew “TidesofTime” Biessener and Cong “StrifeCro” Shu, Jan “SuperJJ” Janssen stood victorious as the first champion of Batstone. The tournament, organized by James “Firebat” Kostesich, forced players to deckbuild with a modified standard card pool, with some of the most powerful cards banned, including Yogg Saron, Call of the Wild and Tuskarr Totemic.

A compelling question was thus posed: What would the metagame at Batstone look like? Our short pre-tournament analysis hailed Tempo Mage and Anyfin Paladin as two of the potentially strongest decks and we looked forward to a slower, control metagame.

While that analysis was more or less correct, SuperJJ’s winning strategy was completely left-field. The SeatStory Cup champion had gone for a “SMOrc” line-up with Face Hunter, Tempo Mage, Midrange Shaman and Aggro Paladin which steamrolled the competition. His full line-up can be found below, while other decks from popular streamers and pro-players are available in our deck library here.

SuperJJ’s line-up:

Tempo Mage
Face Hunter
Midrange Shaman
Aggro Paladin
